About Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is the most traditional form of counseling.  It involves the individual client meeting one-on-one with the counselor for a series of sessions.

The focus of the individual counseling sessions are addressing the issues that brought you to seek help in finding wholeness - the issues that brought you here in the first place.  You can also expect to address additional related issues that come up through these sessions.

During the sessions, you will talk with your counselor about the issues, how you react and other related matters.  At times, you may not see the connections, but periodically these connections will become apparent.  You will also discuss, and at times even try, techniques that will be helpful in addressing these situations.
You can also expect to have things to do or think about between sessions.

When the individual in counseling is a child (or even an adolescent), the counselor will also meet with a parent or the parents along with some sessions.  When this occurs, parents should understand that all of the specifics of what the child (or adolescent) says may not be revealed by the counselor in order to provide a sense of safety in the counseling relationship for the child (or adolescent).

Individual counseling may be short or long term, depending on the complexity of the issues.
