About Consultations and Supervision

Consultation with Area Religious Leaders

We are available to have consultation sessions with area religious leaders.  These consultations tend to fall into one of two main categories, although if you have another need, please contact us to discuss it.

The first type of consultation is general about mental health concerns.  We are available to help you understand better types of issues that you may see in your faith group or community.  We understand that you may or may not have some background in these areas but that you desire to know more to better be able to serve.  Related to this is our ability to help you in addressing advocacy or service issues within your faith group.

The other type of consultation is about specific concerns, especially about whether you need to refer a case.  As a pastor, I understand that we want to be able to protect and guide those entrusted to our care.  I also know that even as a mental health professional, I cannot provide more than brief counseling to members of my faith community.  I also know that there are situations that are beyond my ability to care for on my own.  It is in these types of situations, that seeking consultation is important.  If the consultation results in a referral here (which is not always appropriate) and the member of your faith community agrees, they can release information to you and you can remain an important part of that person's care.

Consultation with Mental Health Professionals

We are available to have consultation sessions with mental health professionals.  These consultations tend to focus on spiritual issues related to counseling and therapy, although if you have another need, please contact us to discuss it.

Increasingly, as mental health professionals, we are realizing that we need to be considering our clients as whole human beings.  Clear connections between dimensions of our selves is documented - for example medical conditions can affect our mental health.  As a result, it is important to look at the spiritual dimensions that may be affecting your client(s) as well as their particular issues and symptoms.  We are available to provide consultation on how to include spirituality in counseling in general.  We are also available to consult with you about how spiritual issues are involved in a particular case.

Supervision for Mental Health Professionals

We are available to provide supervision for mental health professional.  Supervision may be given for professionals that are just starting their professional journey or for professionals that are more seasoned.  We have experience providing supervision in both individual and group settings.
